The following is some recommended reading for information on the¬†“Religious Freedom Restoration Act.” This insidious bill is making its rounds in the States. Although the state-to-state bill sweeps are notably¬†ALEC, they claim no responsibility or involvement in the bill. Uh huh. It would appear anti-gay lobbyists and ultra conservative, base-pleasing representatives are responsible. Still, one chooses their religion. People do not choose their color, gender or sexual orientation. Church-blamed or sanctioned bigotry is still nasty ole bigotry.¬†

I don’t have a problem with a business not wanting to serve “the others.” I can tell you that if I were a baker, I wouldn’t want to bake a muffin for the KKK. In fact, they can kiss my big ole muffins! My problem is the whole “religious freedom” thing. Religion in the US rakes in billions of dollars through lots and lots of “freedom” (and tax-free free church lands, bibles, broadcasts, political lobbying, political bullying, etc.). Not to mention, you can CHOOSE your religion here in these States. That’s a freedom in itself.¬†Cherry picking bible verses makes you no less free, but apparently it can mean a lot less freedom for “the others.”
